Occupational therapy is as a profession concerned
with promoting health and well being through
occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy
is to enable people to participate in the activities
of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve
this outcome by enabling people to do things that
will enhance their ability to participate or by
modifying the environment to better support
participation. |
Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid
that causes swelling, most often in the arms and/or
legs. Lymphedema can develop when lymphatic vessels
are missing or impaired, or when lymph vessels are
damaged or lymph nodes removed. Untreated,
lymphedema can cause reduced oxygen availability to
tissues, interfere with healing, and increase the
prevalence of infections. |
Physical Therapy (PT) is considered a conservative
treatment method to address treatment,healing and
prevention of injuries and disabilities. PT focuses
primarily, but not solely,on pain relief,promoting
healing, and restoring function and movement
associated with injury. Other areas within physical
therapy are ergonomic (body mechanic) training,
fitness/ wellness, and especially education and
prevention. |
